Hi Red River Crew
Can't wait to scale some Red River Rock, looks amazing.
I am lucky enough to be in the area between Apr 13th-26th and looking for someone to climb with.
I will have my own gear
I mostly climb sport, up to 511.d-5.12a ish, can push on other slightly higher grades, but happy just to be on the rock whatever the scenario.
I will have my own rope & draws and a car for crag hopping
If you don't mind letting the lonely Aussie tag along, that would be awesome
Also looking for some beta on the area: seasonal considerations, crag tips, place to camp, any specifics, BEARS???
So pumped for this trip and look forward to exploring the Red River Gorge area soon

Re: Visiting from Australia
Bears are pretty prevalent in these areas, you'll probably want to get at least a can or two of bear spray. Also don't forget to keep some extra cash on you for the Nada tunnel toll.
Skipping cruxes is a way of life.
Re: Visiting from Australia
Please disregard anything and everything that whoneedsfeet says! You need at least three cans of bear spray and the Nada Tunnel Toll accepts credit card.
Drugs are Cool!
Re: Visiting from Australia
The Kentucky bears we have here might look a little different here than what you've got in the southern hemisphere...
And whoneedsfeet is right, they can be very aggressive. I've also heard that they like to go for the butthole right off the bat.

Except for the white sneakers lurking underneath all those balloons

Anyway... to answer your question, probably better to stay at Miguel's if you are partner-hunting. If you have a car and can belay people without dropping them to their death, you will be popular there.
Re: Visiting from Australia
You will be as a god among men with your horseless carriage and the other cargo that you describe from abroad. You will be an honored guest in the tents of the Sheikhs of KY in the lowlands behind Castle Miguel's. You will discuss the climbing politics of the region in lowered tones and sometime barely audible whispers between short droughts of strong campfire coffee. You will be welcomed by strong nubile women both local and from each of the four winds with smiles brimming with strong white teeth centered between square shoulders and smaller than modest but eye-catching breasts--any of whom could casually dismember you with her toes alone, as a child might pluck petals from a daisy.

Sad, that you guys are a pretty accurate representation of Americans.
