college diet

So I've got a budget of $40 a month to eat on. That means lots of pasta and ketchup. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stretch my budget out to where I stay somewhat healthy.
I already know how to take a box of spaggatti and a can of tuna w/mayonaise and make "tuna casserole"
I also do the Raman thing.I just know that its not healthy.What can I add that's cheap, to raman and it be more healthy and have more calories.
I also need good 'bean as a main course' recipes. Beans and cornbread, beans and rice, beans and tomatoes, beans and beans.....
I need a good scratch cornbread recipe
help me out here!

fresh vegetables/ canned beans. Lived on it in the 70s.(also get a job as a cook and eat at the beginning and end of each shift)

I would do that, and I might end up doing that. But I'm trying to put together a war plan here.
One of my main staples is gravy. As a student I can't afford meat. No meat, No grease, no grease No rue, no rue, no gravy! Unless you can come up with a gravy recipe that doesn't use real grease then I'm OOG!

Here you go.

a big can of stewed tomatos, a can of corn, a few cans of different beans/lentils, a can of mushrooms, and make 3 or 4 cups of rice. This will keep in the fridge for a week, and is Yummy yummy yummy. not to mention just full of goodies for your body!!!!

oh....and Peanut butter will help keep you healthy too. It can be the 'luxury' in your 40$ a month diet. :)

in my previous recipie. instead of the stewed tomatos......you can spice it up with a big jar of salsa. :) or hell...add both!

if you have extra $$....I add chicken or hamburger.

if you need protein...the canned meats...although kinda gross at times...are pretty good.

Canned seafood is especially good. smoked oysters, kippers, etc are all great with bread and butter or on crackers.

So I don't do much during the week as far as physical labors. So I'm trying to keep my calories as low as possible. How much protein do I need to survive. How much should I comsume on Monday. the day after climbing? What about during the week.

right now I weigh 170 lbs. I would like to weigh 135lbs.(talk about sending some shit!)I'd be a climbing wraith. I just don't want my teeth to drop out because I got scurvy!

This is somewhat long term thinking, but do you have a place where you can grow stuff, like tomatoes, cabbage, etc.? Eggs are cheap. Bow season opens in a couple weeks (got a freezer? Can you butcher your own?).
(BTW, citrus fruits will keep you from getting scurvy, hence the term limey (a little more nautical etymology for you!))
