Wilderness First Responder Course in Lexington, KY

Post by WCSART »

Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team primarily responds to accidents that occur in the woods of Red River Gorge. Occasionally, we will arrive on scene to find that a Wilderness First Responder, who just happens to be near by, has already beat us there. In these instances the "WOOFER" is already stabilizing the patient's spine, and working to address their injuries. For us this is very helpful, and often results in better outcomes for the patient.

Coming up this winter (January 4th-12th, 2014) the University of Kentucky is hosting a NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute Wilderness First Responder course. This course focuses on the treatment of injuries and illnesses in back country locations. In this course, you will learn how to treat patients using both conventional and improvised methods. This is a great opportunity to gain some crucial knowledge that could save your or a friend's life at the crag.

If you are interested, please go to http://nres.ca.uky.edu/ and sign up. The link for more course information and an application is in the bottom right corner of the page.

Please remember that WCSART has no official affiliation with this course. We simply desire to help save lives in the Red.
