If I purchase the guidebook ebook can it be loaded to two devices? I would like it on my iPad to actually read it well but would also like it on my phone to take to the crag.

Yes. As long as your phone and ipad are registered to the same iTunes account. Your book will live in iTunes and can be synced to both devices.
