Just curious, what people regarded as the classic tests for the grade through the twelves at the Red? It's somewhat tricky as the variety of climbing at the Red is so varied.

From my limited experience;

12a - Too Many Puppies
12b - Iniquity
12c - Orange Juice
12d - Jesus Wept (?)

not a bad list. I'm not sure what makes a "test piece", but I'd take Check your Grip or Mercy the Huff over too many puppies.

Jesus Wept was my first 12d, but definitely no test piece. It is definitely low in the grade. For 12b, maybe Mercy, the Huff. Try Malice or Resurrection for a 12c.

Do you mean good routes that are hard for the grade or do you mean routes that feel right smack in the middle of the grade (just the possibility that people are breaking down each letter grade into 3 subdivisions(soft, spot on and hard) is making Dustonian furious right now!!)

Testpiece means hard and classic to me...

So,

12a- Bare Metal Teen
12b-Soul Ram
12c-? Malice
12d-? Stunning the Hog

I was thinking routes that are stiff and sustained (insert joke) at the relevant grade and classic, without being overtly sandbagged (BMT comes to mind)
