It's winter... which for me, means bouldering season. Aside from talking about rebolting efforts and some random chit-chat from at the terminal and a few other random threads... I feel there has been a little lull in activity on the site.
So, let's chat about bouldering... I'm curious what your favorite SE bouldering spot is? I've only included "the big 3"... that being horse pens 40, little rock city (stone fort), and rocktown.
Feel free to comment on other bouldering areas... but throw out there a vote for your favorite(s) of the 3 classic SE spots. You can vote for all 3 spots if you feel they are all equal in your opinion. I'm voting for HP 40 and rocktown because they are pretty close and LRC is a notch below, in my opinion. Feel free to change your vote if your opinion changes over time.
For me here is the line-up:
1) Rocktown (Easily my favorite of the 3. I like the steep thuggy style.)
2) HP 40 (A very close 2nd... I just wish it were a little closer to Lexington. Sucks that it's the furthest away from home, but I love the unique style of the problems and I love the slopers.)
3) LRC (Good, but definitely my least favorite of the 3... for whatever reason, LRC and I don't see eye-to-eye, maybe it's all of the slimpers. The only 2 perks, for me, are that it's close to Chattannooga (which is convenient) and it's the closest of the 3 to Lexington.)
What are your thoughts?
Favorite SE bouldering location?
Re: Favorite SE bouldering location?
I have been going to hp40 once a month for the last 4 months in an effort to resurrect my climbing. It's been really fun and I like the proximity to facilities and camp. It's a bit of a drive from Louisville but is really fun and easy to do a lot once you get there. It was 60 there yesterday and that was nice. I'm finding out I'm more of a loaner in my old age though - preferring solo or one partner to more than that. My tolerance for goofy shit and patience is not what it used to be I guess. Still, aside from that I like HP40 for its quality of rock and problems and ease of access. Hoping to get back there a couple times in Feb. Still havent sent BumBoy V2 is my struggle level right now. Its all good though and I'm having fun.

kentucky. if we compare it using fun per dollar (FDP) it blows the doors off 'the south'. one trip to LRC cost me 5 kentucky trips.
fuck. that.
fuck. that.
haunted.
Re: Favorite SE bouldering location?
not to mention the ginormous "crews" of teenagers and young adults posing and spraying more than climbing, quite annoying "down there"
Re: Favorite SE bouldering location?
Why aren't secret Kentucky boulders not an option?
Re: Favorite SE bouldering location?
Not sure, but I don't think that isn't a double negative.

Tommy the funny man... kentucky bouldering, haha... only if the weather is better in ky than it is in tn, ga, or al... and it's too cold to sport climb. then maybe, just maybe.
Let's entertain this idea...
Ray - is there a way for you or I to add KY Bouldering to the list for the poll??

Appealing to Ray on here is kind of like praying to some arbitrary deity before going to bed, hoping that your impotent request might somehow stack the odds in your favor.
Re: Favorite SE bouldering location?
There are a few more other good areas too. What about Grayson Highlands in VA or Grandmother Boulders in NC. LRC can suck dis white cock.
I love jugs
