"The grade of any new route will drift like a floating interest rate until some local climber—usually the biggest twat at the crag—deems himself important enough to be the one to publish a guidebook. The Guidebook Author becomes, for all intents and purposes, the self-proclaimed God of Grades and he weilds his absolute power by getting the final say in what grades appear in his book."

Andrew Bisharat nails it once in a while. ;)

Good thing Ray is intelligent and technologically capable, and crowdsources the grades at the Red.

Doesn't seem to apply to the Red so much, considering the voting system that has played a large role.

Wait, you mean we cannot spark controversy over this? Come on, we clearly need another hot debate in this community.

I like the system.. seems pretty equitable.
In general, shouldn't grades always be taken with a grain of salt;- there's so much that can't be captured in one grade.

The voting system only works if people don't vote just for the points. You see a lot of "soft, should be B instead of D!".
