What counts as an attempt?

Does the number of times you tied in and out of the rope, weighted the rope or how many times your feet touched the ground officially determine the number of goes you gave a route? Say a route has a hard start and you fell off four times trying to get it but then sent once you pulled it does it still count as sending first try? Always wondered this.

If you never weight the rope it's legit. Downclimbing and starting over is legit.

Yeah, that's why I never use a stick clip. At least when I crater from 20 feet, I know that I have not weighted the rope, and that my onsight is still intact.

So you are wondering if after trying a route and falling off FOUR times if it still counts as your FIRST try?
