I am going to the Boulder-Denver area for 10 days near the end of June and would like to take my 14 year old son for a day of bouldering and maybe a different day or half day on an easy 2-3 pitch trad route with some scenic exposure, where is the best and lower graded bouldering within a 2-3 hour drive of Denver, looking for V0-V4 bouldering and 5.5- 5.9 route, ideas? we may be doing other touristy stuff a bit farther from Denver during the time but for the most part will be based in the Boulder-Denver and probably Estes Park areas where we will be visiting with some family

I'd say flagstaff mtn for bouldering and eldo or boulder canyon for the trad. All very near the boulder area. Hope you guys have a fun time!

Flagstaff was sweet and most of it right off the road. Lots of problems in the range you listed.

thanks, any need for a guidebook at Flagstaff or is it pretty easy to just show up and find something?

Contact me, as I live in Boulder now. I would recommend the Satellite boulders in the flatirons for bouldering and either the Flatirons or Boulder Canyon for trad. I have guidebooks to both. you can email me at ecchastang over at gmail dot com. Flagstaff gets a little warmer in the summer, and its hard on the skin.

Plenty of good moderate multi-pitch in Eldo.

i've only passed through the area briefly a few times but i would not hit horsetooth, flagstaff, flatirons (but you know,-iconic) unless you just have a few hours to burn. estes park/rmnp is only 1.5 hours and is unique, convenient and epic...

if i remember, you took a trip to california a year or so ago? lucky kid.

thanks everyone! any easy bouldering around Estes? or where you suggesting it for the easy trad? because I think my parents (who are meeting us there) want to spend some time in Estes, yea I took him for a surfing trip and one day of climbing in Tahquitz last year that went pretty well, I was more in to the surfing than him, the water was pretty damn cold even with wetsuits and he couldn't get into it (we should have went later in the summer)
