Great article in Sunday's Herald Leader

Post by SikMonkey »

I just now got a chance to read the article in yesterday's paper concerning the Murray purchase and I will have to say I think it was pretty good. It cast the RRGCC and climbers in general in a very good light as people who not only want to use the land for rec purposes, but also to take care of and preserve the ecology of it. There are some good quotes from Spragwa and even a nice picture of her on Whipstocking. The only thing I didn't like about the article was that it didn't mention this website! I mean...c'mon! This is the HUB of our local climbing commnuity. :D

Anyway, as I was reading this article I had a thought and I will throw it out and see what everyone thinks. I am sure this has been discussed beore, but why not put a donation box at the trailhead for each of the crags on the property we are trying to purchase and ask like $2? It would have to be anchored and bombproof and collected at the end of every day to keep the theives out, but I think that it would raise some cash. Just a thought.

Thanks Sik. We're psyched about the article.

Y'know, everyone has been trying to think of how to make any donation box bombproof. The problem is that no one can think of a way to keep people from stealing the money. Thanks for the suggestion. If you come up with anything that could withstand the impact of a 4x4 vehicle...let me know!

The fact is, the box doesn't have to be that big. That's both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing in the fact that it would be easy to construct. It would be a curse in that it would be easy to steal, unless......... It kind of depends on how elaborate you want to get. I have some ideas, but it would all depend on your budget. I could design a box that would tear the front end off of a 4x4.

I'd love to hear any ideas that you have. PM me or e-mail me at work. We should have lunch this week. Let me know when is good for you.

Wasn't that a great shot of the hot chic in that article?

I think your design would be great, but the other issue is getting someone to commit to going out there every day to collect the $.

Due to gas prices, it would definitely have to be done on a rotating schedule, but it could be worked out.

somehow incase the box in two feet of concrete. but that makes it a little hard to get the money out.

Oh and I also forgot to mention that I will be projecting Whipstocking this fall. I'm a total poser in that picture. I haven't redpointed it or even attempted to. So there ya go. That's why I'm on TR.
