Storage units near The Red

Post by Foster »

I tried a search but couldn't find a relevant topic, my question is:

Does anyone have experience and/or recommendations for storage facilities near The Red?

I'm planning on spending the fall in Kentucky before moving out west, and I need a place to store some non-climbing possessions that I'll be taking with me (e.g. books, clothing, etc, no furniture). Searching the Internet leads me towards Lexington, but wanted to ask if anyone had used a facility closer to the Gorge.

I'm not looking for a big unit, probably half the size of a single-car garage would be plenty. Price is flexible, I'd pay a reasonable price to avoid anything shady and/or inaccessible.

Any input appreciated. Thanks

Seems to me that most people just leave their shit at miguels, strewn about the parking lot, tossed into the woods, or jammed inside a sedentery van.

Alternatively, you could leave it all underneath a rock overhang. With no precipitation to fall on it, your things will be preserved perfectly for eons like a desert mummy.

Hope this helps.

go down barkers branch until there is cliff on both sides. If you get to ashley loop road then youve gone to far. Throw your shit off the top and in 50 years the NFS will consider it an artifact.

Koops couldn't be any more in the middle of the red (Lee County).

A google search for "self storage beattyville ky" brought up results... Must be my special touch with "asking the google"

Koops is fine but you have to reserve in person and it's 1st come 1st served.

There is a storage unit in Stanton, but I can't remember their name. There's also units available in Clay City.

I am acquainted to the guy who owns Safe Storage in Nicholasville and Lexington KY. http://www.safestorage.com/

I've rented a unit from him in the past. All units are kept behind a locked gate, and have a lock on the door. I recommend it.

Yeah, didn't have a good experience at the unit in Stanton and we're blood locals. Were all paid up and they locked us out. Took a couple days to get ahold of them and them it turned out someone else hadn't paid but they locked out the wrong unit (ours). Kinda sketchy.

Clay City behind DQ should be good.
