Swimming options at the Red...

Post by climb2core »

I have heard about the quarry, but was also told that there was a good swimming hole in the Northern gorge in the river with 25 ft cliffs for jumping off? Can someone hook me up with the beta?

Thanks!

sure thing.

the jump starts with walking to the edge. the jumper looks down to ensure a safe jump target in the water. when ready, he or she will bend their knees, lean forward, and use their legs to propel them off and away from the rock face. once airborne, the jumper should point their toes and make sure their hands are tucked firmly against their side to avoid complications on impact. after splashdown, the jumper will simply swim to the surface and over to the shore.

rinse and repeat.

'redneck rock' is about a two minute walk upstream from the sheltowee trace parking lot on 715. If you reach the hanging suspension bridge you've gone too far. However I'd say the jumping is more like 15 feet. The water isn't exactly pristine swimming but at least it's wet. Also a great place to bring a cooler of Milwaukee's best and pick up overweight girls in bikinis.... if your into that sort of thing.

heh. she's the one with the Aerosmith/Molly Hatchet 'tribute' tattoo on her back. it's sagged a bit so you might be looking more towards her ass for a proper ID.

fair warning: it's kinda a mess down there so be careful.

Where is this quarry you speak of? I know about redneck rock and like the other guy says more like 15 feet, and the water isn't that great looking. Just got back from the New and wish we had that much nice swimming around here. So ya, quarry??

I haven't been to the quarry... I believe it is the drinking water supply??? I just asked my buddy who was there recently and he said it was not worth going to. If I get directions, I will pm you.
