What would you do if it's your land?
What would you do if it's your land?
You're a climber, you buy a piece of land with some great routes, or potential routes on it....
Re: What would you do if it's your land?
Leave it open. Never close.
Oh man, he is messing that up. However, he is missing his left leg so that way would probably be harder for him. SCIN, just before spraying some beta for a climber doing a route the WRONG way.
Re: What would you do if it's your land?
Only let close friends and people I can trust climb there. Tell everyone else to eff off.

I literally envy the Webers and the joy that sharing such natural beauty with others must bring them. I separate my home from the climbing venue and allow climber/ hiker access to the cliff. If the land is configured right I think mountain bikes or horses might be fine. If/ when impact detracts from the natural beauty, I control access in a model similar to what Bob has done with Torrent.
I know that without people appreciating the place I might end up selling to the power company or to the state or having to swim to get to my property because congress approved a dam. Climbing and tourism attracts dollars to my community. That is a sunny aspect of life when the oil company pushing for mineral rights is the only other game in town.

I'd do about the same thing caribe, not as much work as either of them but a limited parking lot and land around my residence marked off.

I open it to climbing, mountain biking, hiking, camping but not to those that treat it like crap. It's easy to identify those folks, they are users. You will never see them at a trail day. So in order to gain access to all that climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and camping, you must show up for X-number of trail-work hours per season. Sort of like a co-op. When someone invests their own sweat and labor, they care a bit more.
