Muir Parking Solution for Memorial Weekend
Posted: Wed May 25, 2011 12:02 am
Rick and I have been trying to come up with a way to accommodate the large number of vehicles anticipated at Muir Valley next weekend (Memorial Day) in view of:
* Memorial Day Weekend being our busiest time of the year at Muir Valley,
* The already record number of visitors we are getting this year,
* The fact the we may have part of our parking lot and our driveway torn up for emergency water line construction,
* And the impact of the Roadside closure
Many people have already made plans to come to the Red to climb this weekend, including a large number from Canada. We would hate to have to turn them away.
Here's what we will do. And, please be sure to read all the "Ifs" in this post...
* IF the weather cooperates and the Muir Emergency Road and areas to park in the valley are not too soft to accommodate the traffic,
* IF you are planning on climbing at Muir this weekend (Friday through Monday, 5/27-30),
* IF you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and
* IF you really do know how to drive said vehicle and can handle a steep, challenging road,
Then, PM me or email me at Liz.Weber5@Gmail.com. Give me your real name, not just your RRC.com ID, tell me what day(s) you plan to be at Muir and what car (model, make, and color) you will be driving. If possible give me an email address and I'll send you a sheet to print and put on your windshield. Depending on the weather, we may be able to allow a couple dozen vehicles down into the Valley floor to park in areas we will designate.
Please don't ask, if you are not going to be driving a 4WD vehicle.
Note that if we do this, it is strictly a ONE-TIME opportunity and will probably never be repeated. The Valley infrastructure simply cannot support this on a on-going basis.
