New river gorge must-do-classics?

Post by toad857 »

I'm looking to skip the trial & error....

I want to climb the drop-dead amazing stellar (sport) classics of the New. The taller & more adventurous the better! I see those amazing photos that look like someone's climbing crazy featured chunks 1000 feet above the gorge. That's what I want. 5.6-5.12

Suggestions? Routes? Crags?

Haven't spent a ton of time at the new but two of my favorites:

Scenic Adult (11c/d)
http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/Nort ... 60784.html

Narcissus (12a)
ttp://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/North_Ameri ... 26118.html

Scenic Adult is truly spectacular (exposure) while Narcissus is just a great climb. I will be curious to see what everyone else says because I want to get there a little more this summer.

Always liked Discombobulated at Endless, 11a. Route just right of it is decent too as is one a bit to the left. Can't remember the nam but it starts off a Huge slabby boulder and is 5.9'ish to maybe .10b. Haven't been to the New in awhile and memory is fading...

not hanging out over too much but under the milkyway and sancho belige are two of my favorites. a little more in the over the gorge feel may be discombobulated and the other mid 11 immediately to the right.

of course, the coliseum at summersville is chunky and overhanging.

yeah, what jeff said. one of those i think is called spectre
training is for people who care, i have a job.

Many of the best routes at the new are trade, but if you want to focus on sport check out the glory hole, the huge overhang makes for some interesting movement.
