New Bridge at Muir Valley

Post by Liz_Weber »

Thank you to Roger Van Damme, Paul Shallabarger, Miguel Casar, Tim Gossweiler, and Santiago Casar who gave up a day of climbing Sunday to build a new bridge on the trail to Johnny's Wall at Muir Valley. Paul donated the pressure treated lumber and this team built a first-class bridge. You guys rock!

Below is the first group of climbers to appreciate dry feet as a result of this bridge crossing.

I suggest cableing one end of it off to a tree. It saves from having to chase it downstream after a big rain.

Great idea, Clevis. We've learned the hard way (by having bridges head down to the KY River after heavy rains) to cable bridges in certain areas. However, the stream crossed by this particular bridge does not see much water shed and thus does not tend to get out of control after a heavy rain. Although we have cabled many of the other MV bridges to trees, the team decided that this one was safe without being cabled.
