It used to be wool sweaters and painters paints, for the retro avant garde cool kids. Then Verve Yojimbo's took center stage. Somewhere Sharma sold out to Prana, and it became the cloth du jour. For way too long, blue jeans have been the yuppie/wanderlust sending status symbol.
If you wear them to engage in a sport such as climbing, why?
The only other 'sports" I can think of that might wear them would be BMX. Are they really the most bendy and comfy clothes you own?

I climb in blue jeans that are 2 sizes too big and cost under 15 bucks a pair. I wear them because they are durable and I like to pretend Im Ron Kauk.
Now if you were to buy me some name brand clothes, I wouldn't turn them down.

Climbers would wear a nun's outfit to the crag if that's what Sharma wore.

Sharma copied the look from me. I've been climbing in jeans for decades.

I got shit for climbing in the gym in shorts from my buddy wearing jeans. Really? I don't get the jean thing either, any other sport and you would be laughed at showing up in denim but climbing its actually the cool thing to wear. I guess they can be durable and cheap.
