Injured climber at Muir Valley

Today, another climber was injured in Muir Valley. A trad leader fell, and his gear zippered out. He decked and badly shattered a vertebra. This was the third injury this year in MV involving broken bones. I don't believe the incident rate is rising, but with the huge increase in numbers of climbing visitors to the Valley, a proportionate rise in injuries is inevitable.
Again, the MV emergency stations and radios worked very well in an area where there is no cell phone reception, and medical help and a litter was on scene in minutes.
Liz and I wish to thank all those volunteers who helped out, including the Canadian paramedic, the litter bearers, and those at the creek crossing (what a time for a gully washer to hit!) And, thanks to the Muir Valley Rescue group and Wolfe County SAR team. You guys and gals are the best!
