It was suggested to me that I pass this on to as many climbers as possible.
One of Lee Counties 'finest' is out of prison and most likely back on the prowl.
Watch your stuff folks.

Is this someone with a history of violence, or just a thief?

On a related note, don't take a nice car to the Grey's Branch trailhead for the time being. There has been a rash of catalytic converter-ripoffs there in the last month.

Unbelievable! At my work several people had the cat stolen from their vehicles last year - broad daylight in a busy parking lot. FYI - I heard that in general the cat thieves look for older model imports which supposedly contain some rare earth metals in them...

Last I heard a cat was worth about thirty five bucks as scrap and a couple hundred to replace.

If your choice is between a nice car and a truck/suv/van with decent clearance, I'd say take the nice car to Gray's Arch (i.e., Military & Left Flank parking area). To chop a cat you have to get under the car, so it's much easier to get one off something higher off the ground. I know two people who've had theirs stolen--one drove an S-10 and the other drove an Astro. So you're probably better off with a low clearance car that you can't easily crawl under.
