blue tick marks

So I met the guy who's been tick-marking his way up classic routes with blue, that's right, blue schoolteacher's chalk. You may have seen the aftermath on Far From God and a few other routes around, including some at Drive By, although I've spent considerable time cleaning up the mess on the routes I've come across. Seeing as diplomacy was never my strong suit, I had a fairly unpleasant interaction with him... but at least I was honest and hopefully changed his mind about doing this too yet more routes in the Red (and god knows where else, as he's on an apparently endless, likely trust-funded climbing trip). His rationale was that "people are already tick marking like hell anyway, so why shouldn't I go the next step & do it in blue?"
Anyway, it should be obvious by now that I hate this and think it looks downright f-ugly. Just hoping to reach some sort of community consensus here to avoid this sort of asinine shit in the future on other routes. Thanks and have good ol' fashioned safe fun out there--with no chalk, white chalk, and few to no tick marks left behind please!

I bet if he is approached enough times to please stop, he will. Very few people want to be "that guy".

Hmm, good idea...and possibly more effective than laying into him like an alcoholic stepfather!

I understand where you're coming from, but is this where we're drawing the line? I mean We've already marked up the cliffs with White chalk, which sticks out like a sore thumb. So why not blue or red or green? I'm not advocating this, but if we're going to stand up against it I just want to know why we are doing so. Seems like we're hippocrits, ya know?

Great point dude. By that rationale, we should just let some guy retro-jizz everything down to 10c when he passes through the Red. Climbing is an informal outdoor "sport" with guidelines and unspoken etiquette like any other. So yeah, big blue tick marks on every potential hold on popular sport climbs is over the line on multiple levels.

Starting noticing those big blue tics last fall(?). Ugly and annoying as hell. Thanks for interacting with him.
