yeah, so does facebook suck? am i crazy or do they not accept hotmail and gmail accounts as email addresses? if so, does anyone else think that needs explanation?

They do accept Gmail accounts. All I have had for years and fb works fine with it.

Yes, they definitely accept gmail as a valid E-mail account. I have one.

And if they suck, no one is forcing you to go there.

what makes you think i was being 'forced'? i was trying to stay informed about trail building projects and this was the way presented. so, no- i'm not forced to participate or bother organizers repetitively about details;
what would you recommend i do if i want to continue to avoid facebook yet remain engaged in the volunteer community?

If you don't want to use facebook, you find alternative ways to be informed. Signing up for E-mail list, attending meetings, or talking to people in person.

I was not being facetious. I know several people who have, for one reason or another, decided not to use Facebook. Two guys in particular that I am thinking about, both had facebook accounts at one point, but one person found that he was spending too much time on it and decided to quit cold-turkey, to remove the temptation alltogether, and another disagreed with some policies. They do seem to be able to keep up with anything that interests them just fine without Facebook.
