Hey, they have breached that dam on the way to the solar collector. No way to drive over it now, so you have to walk down then back up this kinda muddy area, which can be kinda "intresting" if it has just rained....

I don't know if it was an intentional breach, I went by there a couple months ago or so, and it looked like they'd poured a bunch of concrete and put in new culverts. Looked great, except that the water wasn't flowing through the culverts. It was flowing underneath instead.

Maybe they dug up the old culvert then, but there is a big pile of dirt on the near side, then a trench for the water.

I saw that thing after they "fixed" it and that was possibly the worst attempt at a patch job I have EVER seen. No way it would last, especially if the water was still flowing under it. It needed mehcanical reinforcement or a MUCH more shallow slope. It kind of surprised me that they would do such a crappy job considering they have to drive their trucks over it too.

So my question...once we buy this land and traffic increases to these area and the roads get more messed up...who will repair and maintain them...us the RRCGG, the county or the oil companies?

What will happen to all the oil company machinery that is out there now? Will they still be drilling for it after we buy it? Good question about the roads, though.

mineral rights are separate from property ownership, it is common for people to own mineral rights to drill or extract things from below the surface and not own the property on top.

The oil company cut the dam>I spoke to the foreman who was working at the end of solar collector road.They were plugging all the injection wells(hence the concrete)they were going to pull all of their interests from the right side,and plug all the wells.They cut the dam in the slurry pond to drain it(was it legal???I don't know???)
I think that we can fix the dam no problem.I asked board members of the RRGCC if they would give me a plan of action 1)fix the dam 2)place a bridge over the dam3)make a new creek crossing for vehicles4)make a new crossing for foot traffic.
I have not recieved an answer,or a reply.I honestly don't think they're too interested in my help.But they sure will complain if I do something they don't like!!!!!!

The main road back to the Southern Region is owned by the State and maintained by the State. The Oil Companies lay the gravel and maintain the roads up to the wells. Actually, we're kind of lucky that they haven't complained about climbers tearing up the roads yet. Our traffic is probably what helped pull down the bridge. Anyway, Shannon and John are probably the best equipped to answer the question of who will maintain the roads. If we are gonna ask someone to rebuild it, it should be SikMonkey and AirCanada, they're the engineers

Finally, you're a bunch of sissies if you can't make it back to solar without driving up the bridge. I got hacked on big time for taking my little car across it when it was starting to collapse. Yeah the hike makes the approach longer but not by much. Ever been back to Wall of Denial? SHEESH! It's arguably a more difficult hike to get to Left Flank too.

Yeah I have no problem hiking in, it's good for you(pigsteak). But I was just hoping I can get my vehicle up and down the big hill near the motherlode parking area. I hope that after all our efforts to purchanse the land, we don't end up with access issues because of impassable dirt roads. I hate to think of all the SUV's out there taking up even more of the very limited space at the parking areas. I really think the southern region is seeing more traffic than ever and it will probably increase after the purchase.
