New to RRG

Post by Ex2goclimbing »

Hi all,

A friend of mine and I are planning a trip to the RRG this March. We’ll be climbing the 13th through the 17th.

Both of us have outdoor climbing and leading experience, but it’s been a little while for both of us. Would any locals be up to showing us around early in the week? We’ll probably stick to pretty moderate sport routes for this trip. We are happy to compensate with beer/a belay/food/eternal gratitude/our rendition of your favorite song.*

Otherwise, any recommendations of good moderate sport routes (5.9 or easier) would be awesome.

Thanks!
Erika and Eamon

*Eamon will play guitar, and I’ll sing off key.

I will try to warn you a little in advance...
1.) This site is not really designed for actually discussing things relevant to climbing. It is really just an excuse for bored climbers to make fun of other bored climbers.
2.) Expect almost no help from said bunch of bored climbers.
3.) You are female, so expect the bored male climbers (95% of people on this site) to offer all types of inappropriate compensation packages for their guiding services.

In reality, these people are far nicer in person than they appear online. You may have better luck just setting up camp at Miguels and talking to the arriving masses. Also use the search function on the online guide book to pull up all the 5.9 climbs, or 5.whatever. Then you can click on the star grading system so they will appear in order from most to least stars or vice versa.

Buy a guidebook, it will be money well spent.

Good luck and be ready for the onslaught...

pft don't listen to him, the best option is to buy a full trad rack and head up to muscle beach. The rest will fall into place

I would narrow your focus to the Southern Region and Muir Valley and anticipate spending more time in Muir. http://www.redriverclimbing.com/RRCGuide/ (look on the left side for each area). Both will have 5.9 and under sport routes. Muir might have more in that range, I'm not sure.

If you really, really suck at navigation find someone to go with you to locate crags. I mean you really have to such though, Muir has signs from the parking lot to the cliff. Also in Muir many of the crags have metal tags at the base of the route with name / grade, so route location shouldn't be an issue.

Here is an online guide search of Muir filtered to sport routes in your range: http://www.redriverclimbing.com/RRCGuid ... &Search=Go

See C2C, we can be helpful.

nah, that was the old krampus, the new krampus has settled for mediocrity. The new question is "do you have less facial hair than I do?"

The only reason that you are all being so nice is because I called you out. Now it is more fun to prove me wrong (bored climber making fun of other bored climber) than to do what I said you would do. LMAO, awesome.

when did 5.9 and less become moderate?? That sound more like EASY to me. Good luck not much in that range around these parts.

Post a picture or yourself or if you are fugly, post a picture of some hot girl off the internet and say it is you. This will help you find partners.
