Crunchy shoulders

Post by Shamis »

Anybody else getting really loud disturbing crackle and crunching noises in their shoulders? My shoulders don't really hurt, but the noises coming out of them these days are troubling. Is there a way to make this go away? in particular if I straiten my arm and from a hanging position lift it straight out behind me, my shoulder consistently does a loud crunch which seems to be a dozen small cracks all at the same time...

I have treated patients with crackling shoulders. This could be serious. Seek medical attention immediately.

LOL, that is just you living and getting old. Probably some AC joint mild arthritic changes, beat up up rotator cuff and mild bursitis. Only thing you can do is keep your rotator cuff muscles strong. You should be able to find lots of stuff on the internet.

The throwers 10 program is a good start:

Dude my body sounds like a fireworks show. No pain but tons of crunches. Consider it your reward for not being a couch potato all of your life.

The Pirate sounds like a tin can full of gravel when he shrugs his shoulder. When he swings a punch to hit someone is sounds like a gravel truck dumping its load!

climbing seems to promote the "crunchies" I haven't climbed in a while and was suprised I didn't hear any yesterday doing pushups. It use to sound like a bowl of rice crispies in both shoulders.

yeah, my shoulders sound like someone twisting some bubble wrap when I rotate them. I think it's fairly typical in climbers "gettin'' on in age"...

The medical jargon for this is "crepitus." they taught us to feel for it in physical exam and then move right along like everything's normal.
