New to Climbing! We need help!

Post by britnienoble »

Hello Everyone!,
New to this so let me just get down to the point. One of my new year's resolutions (among getting in better shape) is to do some rock climbing. My hubby decided that is would be fun also so we thought that it was something that we could do together. We took a trip to the Natural Bridge last fall for a family reunion and we just loved it. We came to the conclusion that if we did do some climbing that would be where we had to go! The place is just so beautiful! But, before we can to any kind of climbing we really need major adivce and mentoring. Hopfully we might be able to do something small a little later in the year. I was hoping that maybe we could find some one to chat with to get some info, or maybe even a more experienced couple who would like to join us when we decide to make our trip! We are both very new to the whole idea, the most climbing that I have ever done was at the gym, so all advice would be appericiated!
Thanks!

yeah if you just wanna go to the red and climb contact red river outdoors, if you want to learn before you go to the red then contact your local climbing gym and try to get some instruction, then it still may not be a bad idea to contact red river outdoors as a guide to help you out.

Listen to what Buckoff said. He has some solid advice. Get into a local gym first to learn the ropes. Learn from the person that has been climbing for the longest or someone that is known as the local safety nut in the gym and learn how to properly belay.
After you feel like you have the basics (or if you want a taste prior to that) contact Red River Outdoors.
In fact go outside with RRO and I am sure you can learn the basics there. It would be a lot more fun on real rock then a bunch of plastic.

Thinkin about it, just not sure if we are "experienced" enough. Isn't the next step to exchange photos or something?
