Steroids

Post by SCIN »

After watching Bigger, Faster, Stronger it's pretty obvious that controlled anabolic steroid use would hugely benefit climbers regardless of any weight gain involved. I can easily see a climber going from 5.12 to 5.13 or greater in a short amount of time with steroids and proper training. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any climbers who have experimented with them to quickly jack up their redpoint level.

I don't know about Steroids, but Testosterone has been in use among both men and women in the European Comp scene for a while.

No kidding, I know a doc who is very involved with Sports Medicine. He says if you are a plastic surgeon and limit your practice specializing in male breast reduction surgery, (yes, I said male), you will have an unlimited supply of body builders who have gotten gynecomastia from anabolic steroid use/abuse coming to you to remove their man-tits.

I am not a medical expert so I am sure there are some on this forum that can better speak on this. I worked on a health radio show for a bit and after a show on performance enhancing drugs asked an MD about steroids and their potential for climbers. He stated that there would be a huge risk for finger injuries. Basically that tendons already have a hard time keeping up with muscles under normal training and that with the sort of stresses we would put on our fingers and the rapid strength gains we would see it would be flirting with disaster. I think he also said something about steroids actually weakening the tendons. However, he did say EPO may have some benefits for the aspiring endurance athlete.

so... if you are a man climbing without a shirt but wearing a sports bra... does that still count as "man-climbing?" We probably need to go ahead and come up with some stupid slang term for this now before someone else hijacks the terminology. Maybe we could borrow some Seinfeld terminology and call it "bro-climbing." you know like a man wears a sports bro not a sports bra..... brah.....

Pretty sure climbers have been using steroids for ages. I heard a lot of rumors when I was living in Vegas about people doing them. They definitely work for climbers. This is not an endorsement.
I think most of the people that I've heard of doing them did it to get back to previous strength levels after some kind of injury, but I'm sure there were others that just did it to get strong.
