New to the game
Hey i'm Jeremy. I live in louisville but I work for a helicopter company that has me traveling constantly. Looking to meet some people that might be up for showing a new guy the ropes (no pun intended). I have some gear, two ropes, and more interested in the Rappelling side of things... but would love to start on some easy climbs as well to get my self back in shape. Former military, got out and got too used to the wife's cooking... anyone interested in figuring out some trips or something just hit me up.
Re: New to the game
Only if you pick me up in the helicopter.
And on the third day, God created the Red River Gorge(by conjecture), and he saw that it was good.

Give me a ring if you want to start in the gym to get hands conditioned... Either hesters family fitness in Brooks for bouldering or the other gym located in j town... Name is not comming to me at this time... I don't go there often due to being over priced. PM me if so! I ll get you a contact number

Re: New to the game
why is it that avid climbers are so against rappelling? I did it a lot in the military and had a blast. May not be the other side of the coin, but regardless its a big thing to do in Red River Gorge, which is why i found this site. Maybe in the wrong place?
Re: New to the game
I don't think that climbers are against rappelling so much. It just seems to be a pretty passive activity you might do when you are finished with the going up part. If all you do is take a ride down the rope watching the scenery go by, you have avoided the most interesting part of the game. Going up requires skill, strength, courage, risk taking. I guess there is some of that in rappelling. After the climb up, the ride down on the rope is cool too, just a bit lame in comparison to what you just did. A simple ride down just does not require the level of skill required to go up. That is what climbers revel in. The feeling of accomplishment that makes you want to beat your chest and let out a whoop of testosterone laden primal scream. It makes people quit working and live out of the back of your car, traveling from classic crag all across the USA for years being perfectly happy earning only enough money to camp out long enough to make it to the next route.
Hey Tandem, this is a climbing website. Give it a shot.

Iirc, a famous climber, Gaston Rebuffat, once said something to teh effect of, "all the best climbers die on rappel." Except he said it in French, fwiw...still, holds some truth
