Ames Tackett and I were getting ready to go hiking with the dogs and spotted a bear at the beginning of Tunnel Ridge Road. Needless to say we decided to go to Miguels and eat instead.

Yes, it was big. Scared the shit out of me (but not Ames). When it saw us it ran away. Never even occurred to me to get the bear mace out until we were down the road. So much for that.

Did it occur to you take pictures of it, or have your dogs bark at it, or feed it, or just generally molest it until it attacked you? NO, you say. Well do not worry the government will kill it anyway.

There are bears in the gorge? When did this happen? Is this the first sighting of the season?

Think I saw this one too. A bear has bitten and is hanging off a guy's face, and the wife says, "Be careful Herb... they can smell fear."
