I am starting the Sport Climbing Helmet Wearers Club. Who wants to join? I know Josephine is in.
As Matt T said, this is one of the few, "action sports"
that doesn't wear helmets. BMX, Mountain Biking, Skateboarding, Moto anything, etc. all wear helmets, why not sport climbers?
P.S. I didn't include trad climbing because its hard to call what most of you traddies do as climbing. Also some of you already wear helmets because trad climbing is all about putting on as much junk as you can.

47 views and not a single new member. Andrew, I think your club is fighting an uphill battle for membership.
Oh, and on the skateboard thing... street skaters started wearing helmets much, much later than the pros. But, the pros were in fact wearing them. Maybe we need to start at the top instead of grass roots?

I'll make my kids join, so add two. I should probably teach them by example, but my hair might get messed up.

I did not know street skaters wear helmets. I am pretty sure if you open up a skateboard magazine the only people wearing pads will be on a vert ramp or a in a skatepark that it is required. Not that this is really related to wearing climbing helmets, just wanted to point out that your comparison is off.
That being said, it may not be as off as you think. There is a certain premium, or stock, placed on a pro street skater's hipness that is not placed on the vert skater. So pads and helmets are ok in vert skating but not in a field where style/fashion is seen as important such as street skating. So maybe vert=trad street=sport. If that is the case, definitely an uphill battle and I am totally fashion over function so sorry... I am out of the club.

Pretty sure you misunderstood my statement, kafish.
If you go back to when I was skating, the pro's were all vert skaters and wore helmets and pads. Street skaters were notoriously broke and didn't wear / couldn't afford helmets and pads. It wasn't until much later that you saw the "new guys" like Vallely and maybe Danny Way (it's been a long time) wearing helmets at comps.
It could be that it has shifted back the other way. That was 20 years ago.

I have always worn a helmet while climbing (for good reason: I had two serious concussions while growing up) ...so I guess I am in the club. And yes, I have been laughed at and made fun of for doing so. For those 'new' to the club, I recommend thick skin.
