Has anyone here ever thought, "Wow, money is completely unnecessary. Why have we spent the past few thousand years thinking we need to individually 'own' some material representation of value which, through the clever inventions of banking and interest, and a little time, has ended up collectively owning us?" I think the answer to that question is pretty simple, and it also answers the much more profound question of why the world is a terrible place for many people who live in it.

Money wasn't a conscious invention. It is a spontaneous extension of the inherent self centered-ness of humans and need for power over our fellow humans. Money is merely a proxy for our desire for power. It is hard wired.

We have a need to trade/barter goods and services. Money is the most efficient way to do this. If we used grain or gold or land or anything else as currency it could end up owning us just the same....
