Here is an appropriate place for anecdotes about helmets.

I wear a helmet most of the time when I belay trad. I wear it always when I lead.

I have some really cool motorcycle helmets and wear them every once in awhile when I ride my scooter but most of the time not. But always when I am a passenger on a motorcycle and we are hitting the highway.

I dropped a rock on my moms head from half way up a rout during her first time belaying. Seeing your mom bleed is painful. Seeing your mom bleed on account of something you did, unforgivable. Sure wish she had a helmet

I took an awkward fall on Amarillo Sunset a year or so ago and hit my head. A bump and some bleeding, but could have been a lot worse. A helment would have helped.

I hate my helmet. The only time I bump my head (on roofs) is when I wear one. It makes my neck hurt, too, esp when I look up...

It is Petzl Ellios. I think it is too big for me. I mean, it does adjust down to my head circumference, and theoretically fits. But it is such a pain, literally, that I don't want to wear one, and i don't, except for trad.

This is what happens when a well-meaning someone buys you safety equipment without consulting you...

A few weeks ago I mantled up into a dirty sloping alcove, totally sketched, redlining the pump, about 30 feet above a 30 year old quarter incher backed up by a 00 TCU. As I rocked over into a more secure stance, my helmet hit the roof above and sent me flying backwards.

One of the biggest falls I've taken. It was totally clean.

Stupid helmets.

If you are serious-- sure, you can have it cheap. :) But it would take a while before my hair is long enough for a pigtail. What was I thinking when I chopped it off?
