snakes in the red?

okay, here is another question from your friendly canadian neighbour.....
How thick are the snakes in the red? I'm not worried myself...but the last time my climbing partner saw a snake on a route.....he damn near killed us both!!!
We don't have poisonious snakes in New Brunswick...but I hear you guys do.
What are the names of them, and where/when should we be aware of it on our trip.
So...that covers my partners phobia....mine happens to be spiders.....please tell me you have NO poisonious ones!!! ha ha ha

Thre are 2 types of poisonous snakes to be aware of in the area. Copperheads and Rattlesnakes. There are some Water Moccasins but they are rather rare. Both of these snakes will have triangular shaped heads and if you are close enough to them, they have vertical slit eyes.
The rattle snakes will tend to be thick bodied. I've seen them as thick as a person's wrist. They are not aggressive unless you are fooling around with them. They would just as soon move on their way as to go out of their way to bite you. If you see one, just leave it alone and it will move along.
Copperheads are more slender and like gathering warmth by laying in the sun. I've seen them all over the place this spring and summer. There is an abundance of food for them so they are out and about.

As high as 700 snakes per acre! 200 of them are copperheads. is that enough for ya

We'll be there in September/October....do these guys hibernate?
well, like I said, Snakes aren't my phobia; that one belongs to my climbing partner, and no one has mentioned anything about SPIDERS.....so I'm all set.

how come I get the words ' spiders' every time I try and type the word S-P-I-D-E-R-S????
I've been trying to say that they are my phobia and if there are any poisionus ones of those 8 legged creatures.......
