I'm going to be at the Red for a long week in early May, and was curious about the bouldering.
It's mostly a sport climbing trip, but being a boulderer first i'd love if my girl and i could bring our pads and spend a few days working problems.

There seems to be something there, but is it worth it (ie, interesting features, fun overhangs, QUALITY problems)?

I took a look at rockclimbing.com's routes section; it seems that all of the pictures of RRG bouldering are of people "playing around" on "something", or relatively bland uninteresting lines.

I'm not expecting Hueco or anything, but i'm wondering if it makes sense to bring pads and bouldering shoes all the way to Kentucky.

coming to the red to boulder would be like flying to tokyo & getting your sushi from a gas station.

Yes, but its not a destination because boulderers are lazy.

shitty bouldering, with a few exceptions. it's not a destination because the first 10 feet of a lot of the routes can be spoogy, mossy, and chossy.

Read what he said, it doesn't seem like he wants make it a bouldering trip, just a day or so. there is some things around that would be interesting, not much that actually tops out. That being said, I have only spent 3 days out of the 12 years bouldering in the red. Look up the mini bouldering guide for the red, it will have what you are looking for.

Bulldog is really fun on the friction slab boulder aswell as a nice v3, name has slipped...The pearl and the other stuff around sky bridge is really cool....perhaps even the cove which is a bit of a hike and may be difficult to find...google search around for the junk yard and other stuff like the coffee shop

id bring at least a pad, if for nothing else you can sleep on it.

bring it, there are some great problems and fun areas. like the bar at 3am, don't be too picky and you might have some fun.
