RIP Guy Lacelle

Post by Crankmas »

54 yr old Canadian ice climbing ace Guy Lacelle was killed recently in Hyalite Canyon, Montana... personally never met the gentleman but knew of his greatness through the mags and catalog photos

january of 2007, i had the chance to climb the ames ice hose. my partner and i got to the base just after sunrise and guy came up before i left the belay on the second pitch. he waited patiently as we finished that and the final pitch. we rapped down and said "hi" and thanked him for his infinite patience...he proceeded to unassumingly free solo one of my proudest accomplishments. fortunately, the alpinist was on the scene...

It was a really sad weekend. Everyone banded together even stronger in this tragedy, as we have seen many times before. The climbing community is amazing. Guy will be missed.

This is really sad to hear. While I never met Guy, he was a legend in the ice world.
