just wondering what the road conditions are like? I have a Honda Accord and am wondering if I will be able to brave the roads this winter back there. I know they used to be pretty rotten, with 4WD preferred or at least something with high clearance, but has anyone been there lately and know if I might be able to make it? Or is there any beta for another route there?
Thanks!

Go slow you will probably pull it off. Last summer we had an extra-wide, 4x4 Toyota pickup. It was rough. When we got into the parking lot I was surprised to see a few street machines. Rough roads are dangerous; the rider/ driver assumes all risks and the author assumes no liability.

i was there in Oct 2008 and it needed a 4wd to get far back there. There is a new parking lot right off the road but that would require i long hike.

dang, i was really hoping for some new route beta or to hear they've done something with the road. Looks like I'll be doing most of climbing in the loop (not that that's bad, there's a ton to do there!) OR sweet talking with some people in the campgrond to give me a lift or let me borrow their car...haha
Thanks!

I biked in once. Rode as far as I could then hid the bike.

Last time I drove in there a couple of years ago it was gnarly... hard to get all the way in even with a truck.

Ughh...you're way more ambitious than me. I think I'm going to hire a sherpa or get a llama...

I didn't peddle in because I had to. I was in a Subaru.
I was on a recon mission, just checking out the canyon for future climbing (no gear). I took the single track that sort of parallels the road. I drove the car in and then back out before I biked. The road was not that bad. I am sure I could have made it without all wheel drive. My Subaru is a Legacy GT. Very low clearance. I have been on a lot worse roads with shittier wheels and did just fine. Approach the road as you would a climb.

Isn't most of Black Velvet too cold right now? Why not just go into the canyons where its warm, and you don't need 4wd?
