My friend and I will be in the area friday and sunday. The weather may or may not hold up, but we'd love to climb at red river if possible. I have sport gear, but it would be great if we could hook up with someone with a rope since they're pretty heavy (I'm flying in).

And I should add... I climb at Rumney in NH some but mostly indoors 10s solidly. My friend climbs more in the 8 range but is happy to try harder stuff on top rope. (:

Got to be a troll.

*sigh* Yes, seriously. I have a medical school interview at UKY on Saturday morning, so I figure that won't be enough time to climb that day. My roommate is coming along with me in hopes of climbing at Red River Gorge Friday and Sunday. The weather looks bad... but you never know. I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in coming out with us if the weather happens to be unusually good. We'll have a car and sport gear and are flying back to Boston on Monday morning.
Caribe: I'm not actually that loud, but I did write an essay on Stentor from the Illiad when I was in high school... and the name as a username kinda stuck.
Anyway, I bought a hiking guide to the area as a plan b, but I'd love to climb if possible and would appreciate someone who knows the area coming along.

Stentora, claim that you're a hot chick in your early 20s. Guaranteed lots of offers.

are you apply to med school or residency? just curious
I'm planning on climbing next weekend one day but I don't know where and don't want to commit to areas w/ good 10's, or good 8's which narrows things down even more. you're welcome to tag along if I don't have to accommodate to your needs.

pawilkes- I'm applying to the medical school. I've sent you a PM.
Meadows- Blazingly hot and 24. Then again, what climber chick isn't hot? (:

Stenie,
my consternation isn't in regard to your potential for finding a partner, but in the naivete I sense in your hopeful post. You sound new to the sport, but there is a strong correlation between folks who have "learned" to climb in a gym with marginal experience outside and accidents. This is compounded by the incidence of people hooking up with anonymous climbers with unknown amount of belaying experience and belaying mishaps, the most common cause of accidents. It is unfortunately a not uncommon event in the Red.
Anyone, am I lying?
I know I sound like a dick, and indeed my be one, but this struck me as someone who recognizes all of these variables and posting a troll post in parody of this stereotype.
I guess stereotypes exist for a reason.
You are in good hands with pawilkes. He won't drop you. Don't drop him.
Reminds me of a quote Eric Anderson learned from Mark Wells at the Seneca Guiding outfit where he guided for several years- "Two rules for guiding. 1. Your client is always trying to kill you. 2. When in doubt refer to rule number one."
Good luck with your interview.
