hit and run - i need your help

fellow climbers:
i need any help i can get with identifying a car/person that rear ended me last night in lexington ky and then took off. i mess around a lot on here, but this is completely serious.
i stopped at a light northwest bound at the intersection of richmond rd. and richmond plaza at 6:30pm. this is the light where a right turn would put you in sun tan citys parking lot or the panera bread parking. after sitting at the light for about 5 seconds, me and the person riding plus our 2 dogs were slammed from behind. next thing i know, we're 2 car lengths or more into the intersection and i'm checking to see if everyone's cool. i estimate that he was doing 25-40 mph and never touched his breaks.
after gathering myself, setting the break and hitting the e-flashers, i get out to get info. we're talking 15 seconds max from the time he hit us to the time i was out of the car.
there was nobody there. i cannot explain the rage i felt.
all i know is that it was a late model honda, probably accord or civic and dark in color. the driver was possibly a white male, late 20s.
if you see any hondas with fresh damage to the left, front end please take down the plate number and send me a PM.
thanks for your help,
-caleb

I can't offer any help surrounding the facts of what happened, but I would suggest filing a police report and calling your insurance company. Do both ASAP. It can be tough getting coverage for a hit and run. Having the friend in the car should help, and if you were able to get the contact info for any other witnesses that would help too.

also, my motives behind this post.
the lexington police department could care less about this. the officer that filed the report said, and i quote,"yea, he could have had no insurance. coulda been drunk, coulda had a warrant, or no drivers license. this happens all the time...do you have any more questions?"
i'm out of $500 dollars regardless of whether or not the appraiser totals my car. yea, i know woe is me.
at this point i could care less about the car or the money. cars come and go and life goes on.
it's the principle of the matter. whoever did it needs to sack up and face the music.
barnacle ben: i filed the police report right after it happened and the claim is in at my insurance company.
there was a trail of anti freeze from the scene, to miyakos parking, to a closed off bank parking lot, then back out to richmond road. i'm going there this afternoon to ask about video surveillance in their parking lot.

This is your best bet. With any luck the ass-hole's tag number got caught on camera. I feel for you man, people suck.

Check to see if there's paint on your car that may have come off this person's. This will at least give you the color of the vehicle.
Contact the local Honda dealerships, speak with the service manager and give them the info you've provided here. Maybe if you're lucky, this idiot will go there to get the repair work done.
Good luck! Glad to hear that you weren't seriously hurt.

yeah, glad your allright. Dogs ok too I hope? You would think it is an easy case for a cop, cant be too many front end replacements that went unreported....but alas

gwg, thanks for the tip. i thought that would be really stupid if he did that...so i'll check.
krampus, yea everyone including both dogs were fine.
i called the 311, lexCare number yesterday to ask about the traffic cameras that are at just about every major intersection in lexington. "yes sir, those are live feeds only used for traffic reporting. we don't archive any of that footage."
i also talked to the double tree hotel manager and left a message for the people that rent that entire shopping strip. funny, just about everyone i talked to said the same thing. "yea, since it was dark and our video survellance is like looking through a fish bowl, it probably didn't pick up anything." apparently the unblinking electronic eye of modern tech is focused on our google searches and purchasing trends.
i did retrieve this little gem from the road:
it's too large for a civic, so i think it must have been an accord. what year did honda switch to the giganta emblem? 2003?
thanks for the tips. any help is appreciated.

Seriously. We need to find this douchebag and make his life a living Hell.
Anybody that hits another car hard enough to present the chance of serious injury and then bolts from the scene needs to lose their license at the absolute minimum, and if I had my way, should get to spend a little "me time" in the county lockup.

If the car was going 25-40 mph, an airbag in his car should have deployed virtually making the car undrivable. I don't know anything about Honda's models and when they started installing airbag into their cars.

ahab, Turn that H emblem over and tell me the number(s) on the back. I sell honda parts and I can tell you what model that emblem fits.
