was there sunday and while on the front wall heard a "shit, dude, THUD!" boots were on and off i went. upon arriving at the base of return of chris snyder found a 15yo lying on the ground being held in C-spine and barely responsive. the kid was just below the first bolt when his foot pooped sending him cartwheeling down onto the ledge where he hit his head. after that he continued down to the ground where he hit his head again and was unconcious. EMS was called and upon a quick assessment he was breathing, no blood or breaks, he could move all appendiges on command equally, and he started coming to within a few minutes. a little dazed, he knew person and place but denied any pain other than a headache.
julie and ICU nurse from flag showed up shortly after with all her toys and help. THANKS julie. we reassed and he was pretty stable yet shaken up. he kept wanting to get up but we told him he couldn't and he obliged. EMS and SARS were having traing that day and showed up promptly, with a big crew, and thanks to all the folks at roadside we were able to make extraction very fluid and easy. BIG THANKS to all esp. menifee co SAR and EMS as well as the folks who know who they are.
kid is probably just a concussion luckily and we'll have a story and a life lesson. i look forward to seeing him in a few weekends.
to all of you out there, please be safe and measure the consequences of actions. getting to a first bolt might be/look easy but if the price for a broken hold or a slip is detrimental, stick clip or choose another route. it was an honest mistake/accident and luckily everyone will be okay from it. but please, be safe and help your fellow climber/human.

Wow, Roadside is sure getting a lt of attention lately! I hope the kid gets full recovery!
You know, just last week, I was going to climb Chris Snyder, and did not have a stick clip. I've been on it before, and I knew the moves at the bottom. Felt fairly confident that i could do it without a stick-clip if it were dry, but it was raining, and I remembered the slimy patch from previous times. My partners kept goading me into just doing it, with they usual "you can do it, just go for it, we'll spot you", but my gut was not up to it, every time I took a deep breath and thought-- O.K., I'm going to do it -- there was this strong wibe in my head that said:no-no-no... I ended up scrambling onto the ledge, stick-clipping from there using a branch, and then climbing. Took me a while to do it, with several people offering to just boulder to the first bolt and do it for me, and I felt very lame... And guess what? My foot slipped before I was in position to reach the first bolt! I was able to recover without weighting the rope (I think)-- but I was not at all sure I would have been able to stay on, so it could have been me on the ground... The thing is, I have bouldered to the first bolt in other situations where it was just as high-- but it just did not feel right on that day. Weird...

best wishes for a speedy recovery. glad to hear he was responsive quickly.
i was on the route saturday, stick clipped that first bolt, and promptly slipped pulling that move, i didn't fall, but it was a wake up call.

It is a good thing your partner warned you and didn't chastise you for stick-clipping!
