Obamacare! Good or Bad?

Post by GWG »

There's been lots of talk about the health care reform proposal introduced mid last week. Initially, there was a huge push to get this passed through Congress quickly before the August break. As time goes on, there seems to be more and more questions about it.

For me, I like what I have and am fortunate to have a pretty good policy. My concern is that it's extremely confusing to me what my options will be when I retire in a couple of years. Based on what I've heard, I won't have the option of getting another plan and will have to take the government supplied program.

So what do you think oh enlightened ones of the redriverclimbing community?

We fall into the same category as the assholes voting for it...ie. we haven't read it.

If not too far off the topic lets try this, I know we have a lot of folks on here who are in health care, can anyone chime in on their reasons for the crisis in health care? I assumed it was over the top profit margins from drug manufacturers and their co-conspirators, the wonderful doctors of the nation. The answers from those inside the bizz are that too many resources are spent on people who have virtually no chance for a prolonged and productive life but due to the hypocrite oath they are bond by laws (read govt health care policy) to continue treatment. Jesus is gonna save daddy and it ain't God who is calling him home and we ain't paying so keep on slaving.

It really isn't that complicated.

If you have health care now, then you have a lot to loose and Obamacare is a bad idea for you.

Now if you currently have no health care, then seemingly you have little to loose and Obamacare may be helpful for you. However if you are a business owner, or may ever be employed by a business owner, or may ever earn a good salary, then you may bear the costs of Obamacare down the road.

if we could stop paying off peoples' medical bills for self-inflicted injuries such as long term smokers with lung cancer, alcohlics with no livers, and dumb-ass climbers who break stuff falling off cliffs, then maybe healthcare would be a little more affordable.

wait a minute, forget what i just said....

why not pay for your healthcare the way you pay for everything else in life? out of pocket. then have an insurance policy that would only cover a major catastrophe...

but physicals, runny noses to the doc, meds, etc...you get to see what the real cost is, and that way docs might compete more instead of passing it on to the insurers.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.

and... let the hospitals charge back costs associated with treatment for illegal immigrants to congressional payrolls... congress demands the illegals to be taken care of let them pay for that... from their wallet

Speaking as a very well employed, and well insured citizen, who pays out of my ass for my plan, and is taxed out of my ass for other people's costs, who has closely researched this topic for years.......I believe it's the most challenging and complex issue we face as a country.

Also, that poll speaks to how much ignorance and fearmongering have corrupted understanding of issues around here. Revising the health care business (and it is a business) is perhaps Obama's priority, but the bill comes from congress.

House and Senate are the people doing the horse trading, not Obama, and it's probably no going anywhere in it's current form.
