i like a good -A is greater than B- conversation as much as the next person. they're useful because they let people know 1) how i roll and 2) how everyone else is rolling incorrectly. grades, pants, shoes, pooping in the woods, etc.. it's beautiful. a vast array of difference in form and opinion, and yet i'm the only one with the right answer everytime.
uncanny.
but i'm not sure if i have a preference in describing preferences. hence this poll. favorite pointless conversation?
go.

I'm going with the grades. This is truly the only one where you (and everyone else for that matter) are correct everytime. If Ro feels like 11d, then it's 11d. If it feels like 11a then you have climbed it a bunch and it feels like 11a. In both cases, they are right.

3) I don't care if people know how I roll. I don't care if you are incorrect or correct. I want to know if you are on the level.
What the F does choice 3 mean?
It means you can tell a lot about a climber by their responses to "pointless" questions.
Grades. ro is 11d. muir is soft?
Ro is 11a!
What would this tell me? This person is probably strong but a blowhard.
Muir grades are off.
What would this tell me? This person is probably aware of the grades in the rest of the Red.
Safety. gri-gri means 'gumball deathwish' in italian. bowline?
A person that is super passionate about these topics are sort of green. Any Red River Climber that clips bolts every 6 to 8 feet is not talking or thinking about how dangerous climbing is.
I have never gotten a PM from SCIN saying "Hey dog, you need to use an ATC because it is the right thing to do. Let me tell you why....."
Another person that is super passionate about this topics is a Crusty or Team Suck type person. This is self explanatory.

just to make it interesting......
1.) Bowlines are perfectly safe when tied correctly.
2.) its not just Gumbies that misuse the Gri, the majority of locals and "experienced" climbers I have seen have been just as unsafe.
3.) Grades are subjective....stop bitching about them.
let the hate flow.....
