Kenny Barker told me about bouldering in RMNP. You park at a lake and hike from there. I can't remember what the name is. So Kenny, if you are out there, what was the lake? And any other bouldering first had info from the peanut gallery? Thanks yall.

The best beta I can give is this - be ready to hike uphill, at altitude, for a ways to get to the boulders in RMNP, unless you content yourself with the offers at Lumpy ridge. If you don't feel like the hike, and don't mind driving a bit, the poudre canyon 420 boulder are nice. Also in the general neighborhood is mt. Evens.

For old, crusty people, I would recommend a session at the spot, followed by food and drink on pearl street. Just sayin'....

my wife and i were out there a few weeks ago and picked up colorado bouldering by Phillip Benningfield over at neptunes. climbed on some popular and easy to find boulders just off the road not far into the park from the Beaver Meadows Entrance Station. Veasy to Vhard and good landings if you dont have a pad. as far as parking by a lake - it sounds like the discription on mountainproject.com would help.

Hey Lurky, here's the beta. It's not nearly as bad as what Wes would have you believe. (Gettin' soft dude?). You enter the park from estes and take your first left, which goes toward moraine park and bear lake. You drive the winding road to its end (bear lake) where there is a big parking lot. At the end of the parking lot is the trailhead right next to a ranger station and some picnic tables. Chaos Canyon is at lake Haiyahai (probably misspelled). Follow signs towards that. You can get to some good bouldering by staying on the side of the lake nearest the trail and heading generally right (as you face the lake). I know this is kinda vague, but it's not easy to describe - you really have to just wander around.

Right now there might be a lot of snow up that high. Alternatively there is a place called arch rocks that is about a mile down the fern canyon trail from Moraine park. A bunch of bouldering directly on the trail, flat hike.

My favorite bouldering around here is Mt. Evans. To get there drive to Idaho Springs then to Echo Lake and park. Hike south from the west side of the lake on a trail that soon drops into the valley to the west and puts you on a dirt road. Hike south on the dirt road to where it ends at a few cabins and a reservoir. Here a trail leads up the valley (again south). About 15 minutes up the trail you will see a big boulder on your right. Soon after that there will be a trail leading left across a little stream and towards some boulders and the talus. Cross the stream, and head a bit farther up the valley and you will find tons of great problems of all grades.

By the way, you gonna be in the boulder area? It would be cool to meet up.

why in the world would you just want to boulder in RMNP? I mean theres so much more....but I guess I shouldn't judge I would give me left N## to go out there.
