Road to the Southern Region is Closed

The road going to the southern region (498) has partially washed out and is closed just before the church. It's possible to sneak around the road block but it would probably be better to go down Fixer and up the creek so we don't piss off the local law enforcement. Another possibility is to continue down 11 to 52 then take that back up to 498 on the other side. The gate is pounded into the asphalt which is an indication to me that it might take a while to fix.

yeah, we saw the road before they blocked it off (and then when we snuck through on our way out.. sorry, but had to get home). it was crazy--over the course of the day, it spread to about halfway through one of the lanes. if you weren't paying attention, you'd be f**ked.

on a semi-related note, on the drive out via the creek in my outback we had a pretty funny experience. the last river crossing has a steeper approach angle than the others. I had previously seen water come up over the hood just a little bit but this time when i hit the gas to barrel through, the water came up over the hood onto the windshield and through the open front windows. i got soaked. it was pretty funny, we were all laughing for a couple minutes. so go slow and roll up your windows.

through the creek, huh? Been through it a couple times in an explorer... good fun! This weekend might be my chance to see if I can make it through in my mazda 3 (front wheel drive). place your bets! =)

Speaking of Mazda 3's, any chance mine'll make it up the PMRP road this weekend?

not a chance.

if the road is closed that means don't drive on it until it's re-opened. it's one thing to poach the road-block in order to get out of where you were before it was constructed. it's another issue to deliberately poach the roadblock after it's set up.

i think they are referring to taking the long way back into PMRP, which you can do if you go around and come in through beattyville, i think (the road was closed, but the turn-off for the lode, etc. is before that). any word on if they moved up the section that was closed? it was a couple miles, but i don't know if it was all needed.
if you can get back into the area legally, i know my camry made it up the hill, amidst the huge storm, so unless it rained a lot this week, i think you'd be okay.
