Former Climbers

So if we say it is all about the people, and not the spray or climbing, do any of you know people who seemed to really be into climbing, and then quit?
If so, do you still hang out with them on the same regular basis, but then find out you don't have anything to talk about? Seems to me, it was about the climbing after all....
Or are you willing to admit you are one of those "former climbers", and your climbing buds seem to be waaaay fixated on wasting their lves at the crag, and you are happy to be liberated?

I am still wasting my life(climbing), but I still have at least three former climber friends. Admittedly I don't see them often, mostly phone calls.

Pig must be the most angst ridden climber in the Red.

yup, most of my long term partners were my friends before climbing. Now, if I quit climbing they would probably not be my friends
Whatever, its just like quitting smoking pot and you realize that buddy you have spent so much time with for the last several years is a complete douche bag lawyery weasel. Well maybe not so much like that, but of course i would not see a lot of my friends as often if I quit climbing, I know what a priority climbing is to climbers, I would not expect them to quit just because I did. However, the difference between the friends and acquaintances would be the rest day phone calls.

my friends are my friends. i grew apart from most of my "old" friends before climbing. after climbing it opened my eyes to what a "friend" is/can be.
many of my friends i only see for a few days a year or talk to them once or twice but when we meet it isn't "why haven't you called" or some other guilt trip. when we meet it's like we never parted, our friendship picks right back up without missing a beat.
some of my best friends are folks that used to climb and we have lots to talk about.
some of my best friends still climb and we have lots to talk about other than climbing.
maybe the problem pigass is you are too one-dimensional and socially awkward.
when i choose to call someone a friend, it isn't because of their climbing ability or what have you. we might have met climbing but lets face it; climbers suck so they better have something else going for them if they want to hang out.
i'm still your friend pig.

If you don't team up with me and Mrs Pigsteak for the next "night" adventure race in Ohio then I won't be your friend anymore.
I got old and everthing changed. All my friends who climb don't climb much anymore.

yeah but nothing annoys me more than having a good buzz killed by somebody that just carries on about climbing.
