So here's the deal:

My wife and I have two kids, and most the time we are able to find friends to climb with, to help out and share belay duty so one of us can keep an eye on the kids. However, sometimes you want to climb on a weekday, or go to a different crags or something.

I have heard of hiring a babysitter to go with you to the crag, but I was thinking...why not higher a "full time" belayer. It seems to me that at any given time there are lots of folks hanging out at the Red, on extended climbing trips, with lots of time on their hands, on rest days, etc..

If you were one of those people, would you consider doing this on your rest days, assuming you have rest days?

Why would you ever need to hire someone? Just show up at Miguels and say you need a partner.

I think it's because they have kids. 1 parent to watch kids, 1 to climb.

I think I'd want dinner and beer for being a belay slave if I was already in the Gorge; shared travel expenses if I wasn't. Feel free to send me a message. Unemployment is terribly boring.

Oh, and if you know that photographer whose ass I hauled up Plate Tectonics, tell him to send me my damn pictures!

I'd do it for money. I'm a whore that way.

I'm not offering, my fees would be excessive.

Are you THAT desperate already, LOL?

I have never considered this, but it's an idea to keep in mind! it seems to make more sense, in a way, than hiring a baby-sitter to bring along. B/c with a baby-sitter you need to transport her along with you, provide some sort of accomodations for her to stay for the weekend, and if she isn't a climber, then hanging out all day long at a crag, on top of camping, might not be her ideal baby-sitting assignment, so it would be hard to find a sitter like that. A climber on a rest day though... easy. He/she is already there, and you only need to pay for the actual hours of belaying. or buy dinner and beer, whatever!

Darn it, and just to think that two weeks ago I belayed someone ALL day long on my rest day, and never got paid for it! Things we do for our friends... Which is the answer to your question, I guess...

I'm a guide, so I'm used to belaying for money.
