Stretched out petzl spirit dogbone

Both of these petzl spirits were bought at the same time, both say '06 on the dogbone tag, and i've never taken large falls on either, the biggest maybe 5 feet above the bolt. Something just didn't look right to me when I checked these out. The one on the left is very stretched out and a little frayed. Would you guys still use this, and any potential reasons as to why its stretched out?

I have some of the same dogbones that have a similiar frayed appearance. I have not compared their length to a new one. However, I asked the Petzl rep when I was at the RocTrip at the Red about their appearance. He seemed surprised, then got his draws out for comparison and they looked far worse. He wrote it off as not a big deal, but said I could email a photo to their tech department if I wanted, I never followed up. I imagine mine are stretched as well after seeing your photo. I have BDs that are 3 years old that look brand new that have been used a lot. I will likely replace the Petzls with BDs, weird thing is... the changes have only occured on my 6" but not the 10" petzl dogbones...

I think the bigger issue is how have you had draws for three years and never fallen farther than 5 feet above a bolt? Send the pic to Petzl and they will most likely send you a new dogbone.

I'm always amused when people ask this question. Is a potentially bad fall and injury worth the $3 is costs to replace it?

Yeah yeah, retire it. Not worth your skin, it looks way scary to me. Those threads are too loose.....

I sent an email off to get an official stance on this issue.
Most of mine look that way as well and have looked that way for quite some time.
I will post when I get a response.

On this topic, these are some interesting reads from the quality control guy at BD. He has tested a lot of old junk webbing and biners from various places over the years.
