You're asking a cashier to change a process in her brain that has become automated. The input has changed so she has to search for the alternative path.

I know, I know! I use the bags from Whole Foods at the local Kroger and the comments and confused looks always amuse me. "Tree Hugger" has been muttered a few times. Ask me if I care!

Kind of like asking for no bacon on your egg and cheese bagel at McDonalds.

i used my kroger re-useable bag at walmart today.
first she was irritated that it didn't fit nicely on the little bagging wheel area. then she wanted to put the last 5 items in a separate plastic bag. they would easily fit in the cloth bag so i had to tell her that she could put all the items in 1 bag. sheesh.

What we have here is revolution! I too have been rebelling against plastic bags! I get the similar responses from cashiers. Let's all wage a war against plastic bags!

yeah, down with plastic in general but you got to be careful of changing too much for the mentally handy cap dude at walgreens. It could be the thing that sends him over the edge

you should conform and take the plastic bag. any good and patriotic American would do the same. Why didn't you want to take it anyway? What are you hiding outside of the bag? hmmmmmm

I once told the cashier that I didn't need a bag as he was putting my pack of gum in it. He handed me the pack of gum and then proceeded to wad the bag up and throw it in the garbage.
