Sketchy tree at Chimney Top

Has anyone been up to Chimney top lately? The tree at the end of the first pitch is now sketchier than ever. I grabbed it and the whole thing shifted as if it were going to pop. I remember when we used to do it a couple of years ago we would use the tree as a belay anchor, sling it for pro as we went up, and climb on it as well. Ha! Not now! Now I wouldn't trust it to hang my John Deere ball cap on. This time we skipped the thing altogether. I think it would go at 5.7 or so if someone chopped the tree out entirely, what do you guys think?

Right you are tsparks, Chimney Top is closed to climbing. Don't go yanking out a tree on a cliff that you aren't supposed to be climbing at in the first place. Mother Nature, or some idiot will take care of that poor tree in due time.

I was under the impression that Chimney Top was closed to climbing between Memorial Day and Labor Day, not on a permanent basis...

If you go climbing there, idiot tourists will walk right up to the edge of the cliff and fall off watching you becoz they dont have sense or a rope. They could even fall on your head, especialy on chimney route. Its a tourist trap.

I believe Chimney Top is closed only from April 1 to Nov 1. which is when most the idiots are out visiting these tourist traps!

The seasonal closure (as described in the guidebook) has changed into a year round closure. It is in print somewhere in FS literature. Let me find it....
