No one really seemed to know what happened. she was apparently cleaning then, when she unclipped from being static she was somehow not tied in or not through the shuts that are up there. it did not seem like belayer negligence or equipment failure. I did not feel like poking around too much, everyone was pretty spooked.
As far as her condition, I don't know who she was with that would know.

The climber went up in the middle of the rope intending to set up a toprope and messed it up. A bit like what happened last time at Military.

"went up in the middle of the rope" - what does that mean exactly and why?

Uhhh... if they went up in the middle of the rope, wasn't it already on TR? Or were they leading from the middle????

Both of these accidents should serve as a reminder that climbing is a serious endeavor. Every time you go vertical you risk your life. Of course, the same can be said for getting out of bed.

Climb safe.

From what Sands told me, but I was not there......

TRing on a bight in the middle of the rope so someone could TR after her......unclipping and clipping the trailing end in up to the anchors.......continued unclipping the rope above her, and clipping in the trailing end til she arrived at anchors. In direct, switched out the trailing end again, said take, belayer took, she unclipped, and the belay was on same end of rope as before. Where if the belay had been on the trailing end all would be fine, now the upper end was not going through the anchors, she decked.

WOW what a huge cluster fuck - I still don't get it. Was the goal to switch out ropes so someone to leave? Its not that hard to just tape the two ropes together at the end and pull the other rope throw the draws and anchor. Sorry I am not trying to be a insensitive, I sincerely hope she make a full recovery. I just don't get why people do stuff like that - learn to lead!
