Lifting

I took up weight lifting some weeks ago, as my access to a climbing gym is pretty limited. My question is, do any of you guys know what I should do to adjust my training for climbing? Most of my friends want to get huge and look really buff. Obviously I don't want that, but I'd still like to be as strong as possible.

Legs are a very important part when lifting, but I figure too big legs might just work as extra weight and not help my climbing very much. Any suggestions on that?

Work on the opposing muscles that you don't use climbing -- the "push" muscles.

Train with lighter weights and higher reps.

Do leg workouts that will help you - hip abductions/adductions, calf lifts, etc.

Work safe.
John Longs workout from Hell.

I'm still not sure if substituting weight training for climbing is the way to go.

you're probably right, but it has to be better than doing nothing. and I guess I'm not lifting only for climbing, I mean it's pretty nice to feel more fit and healthy and look better as well

Albin, if you live in Cincy, why is your access to the gym limited?

well access might be the wrong word; I live almost 20 min by car from climbtime and my host family is too busy to take me there more than about once a month. to get there by metro would take about 1.5 hours :)

Where do you live, downtown? Surely there must be a CT regular that is closeby and can pick you up. Or, you can come to the house of pain.

My garage.. :)

I'll PM you the next time I'm on the way to RQ.

Oh, and to answer your post, things I would add to the existing suggestions are:

- Frenchies
- Pilates / Yoga
