Daniel Boone Forest Supervisor orders burning ban


WINCHESTER, Ky., Oct.6, 2008 – On Monday, October 6, Forest Supervisor Jerome Perez issued an emergency order that bans campfires outside of developed recreation areas. The order prohibits “building, maintaining, attending or using fire, charcoal, or campfire outside of a developed recreational siteâ€

Campfire ban being enforced on the Daniel Boone National Forest


WINCHESTER, Ky., Oct. 14, 2008 – Out of 55 citations issued by Forest Service law enforcement officers in the Red River Gorge last weekend, nearly 50 percent were written in violation of the recent campfire ban in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Two wildfires occurring in the gorge over the past several days are a result of escaped campfires.

In an effort to strictly enforce the campfire ban, the Forest Service has detailed additional law enforcement officers from other national forests to help patrol the Red River Gorge.
